The Greenhorns, a new book hitting shelves in April about the passion and promise of young farmers in America, is available for pre order through Battenkill Books. While I am just one small contributor to this collection of fifty essays compiled by Severine, Zoe, and Paula, I am happy to sign my essay and write you a message of encouragement if you like. Heck, I'll even throw in Gibson's greenpaw print if you ask for it. I asked Connie if we could do even more than pre sell the book. We are talking about hosting a screening of the full length documentary the book is based on right here in Cambridge. Battenkill Books, Cold Antler Farm, and a third party organization will be cosponsors of the screening if it all falls into place, which it will, because Connie is amazing and this county is busting at the seams with people in their twenties and thirties aching to get their hands back in to soil.

I want to see this movie!
Here on the Downeast coast of Maine, there are a lot of AARP members who are leading the movement to grow your own food. Admittedly, some of the folks older than 66 are shocked to learn about CAFOs and GMOs but they are getting it and are at least super supporting the Farmers Markets. Those of us who are the first generation of Baby Boomers are used to protest so we're just digging in and doing it. With all of that said, it is so refreshing to hear the young people on the trailer talk about their reasons for returning to dirt.

They will be 40 something someday - and hopefully still farming.
I wish I lived in the area- or an area that would support a screening of the film at all. I'd be there in a heartbeat!

Does Batenkill books ship internationally?
Yes, definitely do a screening at Battenkill! We had one at work, and our local urban ag group just did another one at a local watering hole last weekend... good stuff, that! Can't wait to check out the book...
I am giggling a bit about age here. My honey is in his early 40s and I'll be 40 in June :)
